Farm Sheds Built for Real Farm Work
Most “farm sheds” are just big garages. Ours are designed around how you actually move machinery, store hay, and work on gear, engineered for your wind zone, sized for your gear, and poured on a slab that can handle the load.
At a glance
We recommend a shed type based on how you actually work, not just what you store
Explore the layouts below. Each can be adjusted to suit your property and the way you’ll use it.
Open front farm sheds
Drive through with your header, truck or spreader without ducking. Fast access and great airflow for day-to-day farm use where you’re in and out constantly. Practical, cost-effective, and oriented to block the prevailing weather.
- Fast access
- Great airflow
- Header-friendly

Drive-through farm sheds
Designed around your workflow, not just a box in a paddock. Open both ends and drive straight through: no three-point turns around the header, and trucks and large machinery move in and out without reversing.
- Both ends open
- High throughput
- Truck access

Workshop hybrid sheds
Open front with a lock-up bay for tools and gear: one building that does two jobs. Drive your machinery under cover, then close off a dedicated, dry workshop bay for the things you don’t want left out.
- Open + lock-up
- Workshop bay
- Secure storage

Fully enclosed sheds
12m+ clear spans built for big gear and heavy loads, with full cladding for higher protection and security. Add roller or sliding doors, PA doors and insulation to suit, ideal when you’re housing valuable or sensitive equipment.
- Security
- Weather-tight
- Lockable

Garages with awnings
Mixed-use buildings for semi-rural properties that need more than a carport. A lock-up garage paired with awning coverage for the float, the ute or the boat, built to rural spec, not suburban shortcuts.
- Mixed-use
- Lock-up + awning
- Semi-rural

Give the daily jobs a better place.
Start with what needs cover, what needs its own bay and how you move around the property. We’ll help turn that into a layout that earns its place on the farm.
What to plan for
Space for the everyday gearKeep machinery, feed and tools organised, with the things you use most close at hand.
Access that makes senseAllow for turning, loading and the route from the gate, so getting in and out stays straightforward.
Room to workPlan dry space for maintenance, a workbench or a lock-up bay alongside open storage.
A layout you can grow intoThink about future equipment and extra cover before settling on the footprint.

The right fit for your property
Engineered for your site
Your shed’s span, clearance and openings need to work together with the site’s wind conditions and the loads it will carry. We’ll work through those details with you so the engineering supports the way you plan to use it.

Make room for the way your farm works.
Feed, fencing gear, tools and the jobs that never quite fit in the house shed. Start with what needs a place, then we can help you work through access, covered space and the way you want to build.

A few useful details
Sizes and options depend on the design and site engineering. We’ll confirm the specification in your quote.
One team from dirt to door: here’s what we take care of on every farm shed
Site inspection & design
We start on your property: measuring slopes, checking access and designing around your machinery dimensions and how you work.
Engineered steel portal frames
Australian-made BlueScope Steel portal frames, engineered for your wind zone and built to perform for a lifetime.
Rural-spec concrete slabs
Heavy-duty mesh and engineered footings, poured in-house for heavy machinery and stock loads, not a house slab with a shed on top.
Full installation: we own the gear
Our own excavators, telehandlers and trucks erect it on your timeline, with clear spans from 9m to 18m+ to suit your gear.

SHEDSAFE ACCREDITED
Confidence starts with the right specification.
Rural Built Co is ShedSafe accredited. The program independently reviews shed engineering design principles. For your shed, we work through the site, intended use and wind requirements so you can understand the specification behind the quote.
Australian-made steel. Any exception named on your quote.
A shed that’s designed properly and built from premium Australian materials lasts longer, works better, and protects far more value than it costs.

COLORBOND steel finishes to match existing buildings or keep it classic rural
Strong focus on corrosion resistance for rural weather exposure
Structural integrity designed for heavy machinery, hay and stock loads

How we build your farm shed: first site visit to handover
Site visit (free)
We come to your property anywhere in our build zone, walk the site, check access and measure slopes. No showroom: just boots on your ground.
Design & quote
We design around your machinery, workflow and budget, then give you a fixed-price quote covering steel, concrete, earthworks and build. No hidden extras.
Approvals
We handle council applications, engineering certification and soil tests if needed. You sign off on final drawings and we lodge everything.
Site prep & concrete
Our own excavators and trucks shape the pad. We pour a rural-spec slab: heavy mesh, engineered footings and falls that work for your site.
Shed build
Our crew erects the shed. Because we own our gear, we’re not waiting on hire companies: we stand columns and lock it up on the timeline we agreed.
Handover
We walk you through the finished shed, hand over certification, and call back a month later to check everything’s holding up. That’s the follow-through.
Questions, answered
Absolutely. We use COLORBOND and similar steel ranges. Most clients choose colours to match existing infrastructure, and we can order custom if needed.
From site visit to handover, most farm sheds take 8 to 12 weeks, depending on engineering and council. The biggest variable is often concrete cure time and weather. Because we own our gear, the build phase itself is usually the fastest part.
Rural Built Co is the trading name of Barr Contracting Pty Ltd, QBCC licence 15626231. We can provide licence and insurance details on request.
We do it all in-house. Our own excavators prep the site, and we pour rural-spec slabs engineered for heavy loads. We don’t sub-contract the most critical part of the job to the cheapest bidder.
That’s our sweet spot. We build for working farms, so custom is normal. Want a 14m clear span for a specific header? Need a drive-through design that accounts for a slope? We design from the paddock up, not from a brochure down.
Both. In our local build zone (Moore to Kilcoy, Esk to Fernvale), we do the full job: design, slab, build. Outside that area, we can supply engineered kits across South-East Queensland and surrounds — delivery confirmed on your quote — for your local builder to erect. If you’re arranging your own build, explore our engineered shed kits and what each supply option includes.
We’re a smaller, family-owned builder with our own machinery, focused purely on the Somerset and Brisbane Valley region. You deal directly with the people on-site building your shed: more flexibility, faster decisions, and a builder who’s personally accountable for your project.
A shed that fits your machinery, your workflow and your site
Share your location, what you’re housing, and how you want the shed to work (open front, drive-through or a workshop hybrid) and we’ll come back with a practical design recommendation and clear inclusions.
